Constructing School Achievement: A Sociocultural Perspective

Dear Colleagues,
We have the pleasure to invite you to participate in the forthcoming colloquium Constructing School Achievement: A Sociocultural Perspective to be held at The Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong), Council Chamber on 7-8 December 2011.

Converging two important lines of inquiry into the causes of academic achievement; the child factor and the sociocultural factor, this colloquium will bring together scholarly work that will shed light on causes of academic achievement in different contexts. Using the popular framework of Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory, this colloquium will put forward culturally relevant context for understanding developmental aspects of children's academic achievement and their implication to classroom practice and education progress.

We are privileged to have world renown experts to present their work at the colloquium and they include Marilyn Fleer, Peter Renshaw and Shane N. Phillipson (Australia), Jennifer Vadeboncoeur (Canada), Jim O? Brien (Scotland), Aleksander Baucal (Belgrade), Gavin Brown and Elizabeth Peterson (New Zealand), Mary McCaslin (Arizona US), Simpson Wong, Janet Draper, Atara Sivan, Sandy Li (Hong Kong) and many others.
